31 August 2025 - Making Music Happen at a Talent Showcase
Behind the Scenes: Showcasing Live Music
Every live event has its own unique energy – the buzz of anticipation, the excitement of the performers, and the challenge of making sure everything runs smoothly from start to finish. Recently, we had the pleasure of providing full production support for a local talent showcase, run by a respected talent agency celebrating their 10th anniversary.
Sounds simple, right? Well, almost…
Of course, no live event is without its surprises. On two occasions, things didn’t quite go to plan – but that’s where a good tech crew makes all the difference.
One performer’s acoustic guitar had a loose jack socket that caused the sound to cut in and out. The show must go on, so while the artist played, I knelt beside the stage and literally held the cable in place by hand to keep the signal flowing. Not the most glamorous job, but it kept the performance alive – and earned a few laughs from the crowd.
Later, a singer accidentally stopped her own backing track mid-performance by pressing the wrong button on her phone. No big deal – with a quick reset, we had her back on track in seconds. These little hiccups are part of what makes live music so real and memorable. That’s the magic of live events – anything can happen, and it usually does. Our job is to keep things running, keep performers calm, and make sure the audience only remembers the music, not the mishaps.
The End Result?
At the end of the night, the performers shone, the audience loved it, and we left knowing we’d done more than just provide gear – we helped create moments. That’s what live sound is all about: being ready for the unexpected and making sure the spotlight stays right where it belongs – on the artists! Plus, we managed to capture some magic moments and fantastic audio to bring back to the studio for a little polishing!
The format was simple but powerful: a lineup of performers either singing with their own backing tracks or accompanying themselves on guitar. Our job? To make sure they all sounded their very best and to make the whole 4 hour event run as smoothly as possible.
